Welcome to Whitewood! Whitewood was established in 1888 and sits on the edge of the Black Hills. In it's day, Whitewood was known as the "Hub of the Hills" because of the train station located right downtown. It was a hub for all of the nearby towns, as lumber and other goods were loaded here on the train. Folks from all around the hills would ride the train to Whitewood to attend the Labor Day celebration. There would be a parade down Meade Street, followed by an  old-fashioned picnic in Oak Park.

Many of the original buildings along Meade Street are no longer here. Lately, Meade Street has been getting quite a bit of attention and some of the original buildings are being restored! Come in to Whitewood and see what's been happening!
